freebsd 8.2 vmware-toolbox-cmd timesync

I was trying to use vmware timesync because every time i suspend freebsd the ntpd daemon dies and i loose sync.. I used to write a cron to fix that but I decided to test vmware's time sync feature

to enable it i ran
vmware-toolbox-cmd timesync enable

but I got error

/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libintl.so.8" not found, required by "libglib-2.0.so.0"

/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libpcre.so.0" not found, required by "libglib-2.0.so.0"

the fix:

ln -s /usr/local/lib/libintl.so.9 /usr/local/lib/libintl.so.8

ln -s /usr/local/lib/vmware-tools/lib64-63/libpcre.so.0/libpcre.so.0 /usr/local/lib/

setup static address in openSUSE 12

stupid shit doesn't match SLES or Redhat..

vi /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0

BOOTPROTO='static'
BROADCAST=''
ETHTOOL_OPTIONS=''
IPADDR='192.168.0.164'
MTU=''
NAME='82545EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper)'
NETMASK='255.255.255.0'
NETWORK=''
REMOTE_IPADDR=''
STARTMODE='auto'
USERCONTROL='yes'

the gateway can't be specified in ifcfg-eth0 or /network

vi /etc/sysconfig/network/routes

default 192.168.0.1 - -

installing vmware vsphere CLI v5 on debian 6

aptititude install libxml-libxml-perl  perl-doc  libssl-dev e2fsprogs libarchive-zip-perl libcrypt-ssleay-perl libclass-methodmaker-perl libdata-dump-perl libsoap-lite-perl

echo "ubuntu" > /etc/tmp-release
export httpproxy=
export ftp_proxy=

also a note: When I was running at 256mb the server would run out of memory. I had to bump it up to 1gb ram to install.

Arch Linux and Cisco Anyconnect vpn

I got Arch Linux to run Cisco anyconnect 2.5.3041 vpn.

  • Basically the auto install fails and it lets me manually install vpnsetup.sh
  • I ran the script as root but it fails b/c it tries to look for lsmod in /sbin and arch has it in /bin. The easiest solution was to create a symlink ln -s /bin/lsmod /sbin/lsmod
  • Then I manually installed my company profile.xml into /opt/cisco/vpn/profile/ (I got a copy of the profile from my mac machine)
  • last I manually started the vpn client /opt/cisco/vpn/bin/vpnui &
Google didn't help so I am writing this to say it works

changing SKINS amule.conf, amuled, amuleweb, remote.conf

ok really annoying as i keep forgetting how to add diff skins in a mule so I'm writing this as a ref point

create amuleweb config ONLY if you don't have one.
amuleweb --write-amuleweb --write-config --host=localhost --admin-pass=adminpassword -t chicane -a -G guestpassword

man amuleweb (it is very helpful)

it saved to remote.conf by default but you can copy the results to amule.conf and run
amuleweb --amule-config-file=/home/al/.aMule/amule.conf &

example remote.conf:
al@vmsrvub102:~$ cat .aMule/remote.conf
Locale=
[EC]
Host=localhost
Port=4712
Password=
[Webserver]
Port=4711
UPnPWebServerEnabled=0
UPnPTCPPort=50001
Template=chicane
UseGzip=0
AllowGuest=1
AdminPassword=
GuestPassword=

To find skins run

$ locate amule
output:
/usr/share/amule/webserver

I took pictures of templates for reference.
